Zayn Malik admits he 'never really spoke' to Harry Styles while in One Direction

Since Zayn Malik left One Direction in 2015, he hasn't held back his thoughts on his former group, whether it be in interviews or on social media. But in his latest interview, instead of taking shots, Malik gave reason to why he hasn't particularly voiced much about Harry Styles.

"To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band," Malik told Us Weekly. "So I didn't really expect that much of a relationship with him when I left. And I haven't [had one], to be honest."

Even without Styles in the mix, Malik hasn't entirely lost touch with the other band members. The 24-year-old and Payne exchanged heartfelt tweets on the band's anniversary in 2015, and Louis Tomlinson recently declared that the bad blood between them -- caused by a heated Twitter exchange in 2015 -- had been settled. So when it comes to reuniting all five One Direction members again, Malik isn't completely against the idea.

"Who knows? I've said it before: Never say never," he told the magazine. "If I wanted to come back in 10, 15 years time, then yeah, why not? I don't know. If I didn't want to [be in the band] then, I might not. It just depends on how I'm feeling at that time."

In the meantime, Malik is prepping for the release of his sophomore solo effort, which he recently kicked off with the dynamic Sia collaboration "Dusk Til Dawn." As for whether the powerful new song hints at what he has coming, Malik insists that he's not sticking to one genre.

"There's a lot of different kinds of music on it," he said. "I like to do whatever I'm feeling that day, whatever's feeling good. There's still a lot of soulful R&B tunes on there, there's some club tunes on there, there's some more obvious pop songs as well."

Malik has yet to reveal a release date for his new album. Meanwhile, Styles is in the gearting up for his first North American tour in support of his self-titled solo debut.
