Colton Haynes slams Hollywood for treatment of gays

Colton Haynes wants to be recognized for his talent — not his sexuality.

The "Teen Wolf" star, who publicly came out as a gay last year, slammed Hollywood for the way it focuses on actors' personal lives when they are part of the LGBTQ community before considering their talent.

"Hollywood is so f--ked up. So much of the focus is on your personal life & has nothing to do with the talent you have to bring to the table," he wrote on Twitter.

"Thank god for Ryan Murphy, Greg Berlanti, & Jeff Davis. They believe gay actors are more than just their personal lives," Haynes continued. "So disappointed in how Hollywood cant understand that playing a character has nothing to do with how u live your personal life."

Haynes has starred in hit shows like "Teen Wolf" and "Arrow." His next role will be in "American Horror Story: Cult."

But the Kansas native has certainly made headlines for his personal life, as his tweets pointed out.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in May 2016, he explained how he suffered "terminal anxiety" by hiding from who he was.

"People don't realize what it's like to act 24 hours a day. I'd go home and I was still acting," he explained.

"I feel really bad that I had to lie for so long, But I was told that was the only way I was going to be successful. When you're young in this industry, people take advantage of you, and they literally tell you that your dreams are going to come true," he added.

Months later, Hanyes said "I was told that my dad killed himself because he found out I was gay," in an interview with Out Magazine. He had told his parents when he was a teen and explained that they were unsupportive.

Haynes, 29, became engaged to boyfriend Jeff Leatham in March.
