Kardashian family pledges massive $500,000 donation to Hurricane Harvey relief

Hollywood, take note: The Kardashians know what a charitable donation really looks like.

A number of celebrities have stepped up to make large contributions to Hurricane Harvey relief -- Dwayne Johnson donated $25,000; Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez pledged a joint $50k -- but Kim Kardashian left Twitter floored on Tuesday by announcing a shockingly hefty sum.

"My mom, sisters & I will be donating $500,000 to @redcross and @salvationarmyus today," she tweeted along with prayers for the city of Houston.

Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian both tweeted that the family contribution is a response to Kevin Hart's public challenge to "help the victims of Hurricane Harey by donating whatever you can." Kevin hasn't yet responded to them, but on Monday he thanked DJ Khaled and JJ Watt for both dropping checks.

"We have been watching the heartbreaking footage of the catastrophic flooding in Houston," Kris wrote. "Our hearts go out to the people of Texas."

Kim followed up the staggering announcement by encouraging her 55 million followers to donate as well by texting established Red Cross and Salvation Army numbers.

Notably absent from Kim's tweet is mention of stepdad Caitlyn Jenner. Fans have begun tweeting at the star to ask if she will also be making a contribution to the Houston relief efforts.
