Gabrielle Union dishes on her new NY+ Co. collaboration, one trend she regrets and how to be a total boss

If there is one person that we have a total boss crush on, it's Gabrielle Union.

Between killing it on BET's "Being Mary Jane," to being a superhero mom of three, and let us not forget the breathtaking and fashionable getaways with husband Dwayne Wade, she is one person we have deep Insta-envy over!

And now you can add one more thing to her long list of incredible career achievements: Building a fashion empire.

AOL recently sat down with the actress and talked about her stunning apparel collection with New York & Company, the one trend she regrets and how to completely own the sidewalk like it's your catwalk.

"For my first launch, I wanted it to look like me, like what my actual closet looks like," said Union. "If you were to see me at Target, you would see [me wearing] this. I wanted a collection that was true to me and that I would actually wear, and that I was part of the design from start to finish."

And Union's personal touches are definitely noted in the beautiful clothes. The Gabrielle Union Collection, sold exclusively at New York & Company, is full of bright colors, flattering silhouettes and made with ultra-comfortable materials.

One of her favorite pieces from the collection?

"I love a drop-crotch jogger," said the actress. "I’m a little obsessed with them and you can dress them up or dress them down, depending on what you want to do with your shoe, everything is sort of interchangeable and Instagram-able."

And as one of the ultimate celebrities to follow on Instagram, Union definitely knows how to work it and make a statement -- an attitude reflected in some of her more fashion pieces that can be taken from day to night.

"If you want to be that girl when you walk into the office [that turns heads] that’s the moment you give them drama on the way in," said Union, referencing a beautiful Ming-blue coat. "But when you walk into a bar or a nice dinner, it’s also that moment. The yellow sweater dress has enough stretch, but still kind of gives you a little bit of a shape. It holds you in but it allows you to go on the dance floor -- it doesn’t fight you."

Comfort is the ultimate key for Union who juggles a lot of roles and responsibilities these days. The actress passionately expresses she wants women not only to feel sexy and empowered but to also feel like they can take over the world when wearing her clothes.

"A lot of times you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, and your morning hasn’t gone well, but your outfit can give you that extra little ‘okay, alright now, we’re ready’ attitude," said the mother of three. "I want you to feel like you can do anything you want to do and feel like a boss."

And if there is one trend she absolutely regrets in her lifetime is the trend of fashion debt.

"When I was in college, I was working at the bookstore at UCLA and making $6.60 an hour and I had one credit card that stayed max," said the actress. "I was forever borrowing money, to forever keep up with who? That was the worst trend that put me and a lot of my friends in debt before our lives even began and ruined a lot of credit unnecessarily."

It's probably one of the biggest reasons her collection is affordable, with the majority of the pieces ranging under $100.

But fortunately, she picked up a few life lessons after that, such as staples every woman should own.

"Seamlesss underwear and a nude bra that is nude for you, because we can’t get anywhere without the proper undergarments, then you can live your best life," advises Union.

And how does the mother of three stay looking and feeling her best?

"I drink a gallon a water a day, I started doing that in my early 30s," said Union. "Just be reasonable but don’t deny yourself -- that’s no way to live. In our industry, the idea that you have to look a certain way ... why does every 'body goals' have to be the exact same size? To me, the dopest bodies are the ones that are confident. Know that you are worthy, know that you were born with value, and no matter your size, your budget, you are FLY."
