Mindy Kaling publicly discusses her pregnancy for the first time: Star is 'really excited!'

Finally!

After weeks of speculation, Mindy Kaling is opening up about being pregnant with her first child -- and she's "really excited," she told Willie Geist in a preview for her interview on "Sunday TODAY."

The interview, which won't air in its entirety until September 10, is Kaling's first public confirmation that she's even pregnant at all. The star has kept completely mum on the subject, continuing to chat with her 10 million Twitter followers over the past month while ignoring any and all questions about the news. Now the star, 38, is officially breaking her silence.

Pregnancy is "so unknown to me," she said. "I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I'm like, 'OK, it's out of my hands,' which is kind of a fun feeling."

She's also looking forward to engaging in some mommy-shaming, she joked: "It's so easy to criticize parenting until you're a parent, so one of the nice things about becoming a parent is that I'll be able to openly criticize other parenting because I will have a child."

The one-minute preview doesn't touch on the question of the baby's paternity, and it's unclear whether Mindy will address that during the extended interview. In the past, she's spoken candidly about her desire to have children even while single. "I'm not cavalier about who I would have a kid with," she told Yahoo! Style in 2015. "But the thing I ask every parent that I really admire, the one comment they all have is that they wish they had kids earlier."
