Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Ed Sheeran & more to perform at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards

Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Fifth Harmony, Lorde and others will join host Katy Perry as performers at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, the network announced today (Aug 7).

The star-studded lineup, unveiled in a duo of promo videos, also includes The Weeknd, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Shawn Mendes. And more additions will be announced in the weeks leading up to the much-hyped Aug. 27 event.

Among the performers, several are nominees for the award shows' coveted Moonman -- renamed this year to Moonperson -- themselves. Sheeran, The Weeknd and Lorde are all in the running for the show's Artist Of The Year award, while Cyrus and her hit "Malibu" compete with Fifth Harmony's "Down" for a Best Pop award.

It's set to be a historic night for the award show, which in addition to getting rid of gendered categories for the first time, also adds a "Best Fight Against the System" category for 2017.

The MTV Video Music Awards will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
