Remember when a teenage Prince William tried to help build a house?

"So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me, everyday." - Prince William. Wait, sorry -- no. That wasn't him. Was it?

These throwback photos of a teenage Prince William building a house have us confusing the royal with Ryan Gosling's character in "The Notebook" -- and we're not complaining. First, as a reminder, here's Gosling as Noah Calhoun after slaving away and successfully restoring an old home:

Now take a look at an 18-year-old Prince William making serious use of industrial paintbrushes, a giant hatchet and a very intimidating power saw. Please note the very Noah-esque casual button-down.

Also, we're not totally sure, but it looks like he's not brandishing that hatchet quite right. Was someone monitoring this for safety?

These photos were taken in 2000, well before Prince William met his future wife, Kate Middleton, at university. It would be two years before he famously checked her out during a St. Andrews fashion show, when she wore a skimpy slip that showed off her tiny figure. And the rest is history!
