Kourtney Kardashian shares details on her 24-hour fasting regimen and detox plan

Kourtney Kardashian is sharing her health secrets.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star is known for her gluten-free, no-dairy lifestyle, and now fans get to learn a bit more about her detox and fasting regimes.

"I've been detoxing on and off for a few months now, and since so many of you have asked for more details, I wanted to share exactly what I'm doing on my app," she shared on her app on Wednesday. "First of all, detoxing, of any kind, should be something you consult with your doctor about beforehand, since everyone is different. My doctor did muscle testing and found that I had high levels of metals like mercury and lead, so my motivation for this detox is to get rid of the metals in my system."

"My doctor said one of the fastest ways to detox metals is to try to keep my body in a state of ketosis, which occurs when the glycogen in your liver is depleted and the body burns fatty acids for energy," she continued.

The 38-year-old mother of three also explained that she sticks to a low-carb diet, with high proteins and healthy fats, eating three meals a day—with no snacking in between.

"Also, I don't eat for 14 to 16 hours after dinner (known as intermittent fasting), so if I have dinner at 6 p.m., I won't have breakfast until 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. Although, my doctor prefers I wait until after my workout before eating," she wrote. "I also do a 24-hour fast one day a week. On the fasting days, I drink bone broth and water all day, and then I'll have dinner that evening. So I basically just don't eat breakfast and lunch that day. I find it easiest to always do this on a very busy day, so I don't have time sit around and wish I was eating."

Her meals contain no grains, beans or legumes. For lunch and dinner, she'll eat chicken or fish with veggies and cauliflower rice and broccoli rice (no actual rice). Her favorite meal at the moment is chicken paillard served with spaghetti squash and salmon with roasted asparagus.

For breakfast, she confesses to eating minimal amounts of fruit, but avocado pudding smoothie with banana is a staple in her home. She also adds supplements like MCT oil, bone broth powder and E3Live blue-green algae.

"I'm not going to sugarcoat it, this detox is difficult," she continued. "On fasting days, I try to stay busy and, if I'm home, I'll avoid going into the kitchen. For the rest of the days, if I'm hungry, I'll grab a handful of almonds—but I really try not to snack at all."

"Everybody is different and keeping your body in a state of ketosis is definitely something you need to speak to your doctor about first before trying. For me, I check my blood sugar/ketone levels every morning and this helps me know if I'm on track," she concluded. "Since I'm trying to detox the metals out of my system, my goal was to do this detox for 3 months. But, I also know that I need to enjoy my life, so I break the rules when I go on vacation or if there's a special occasion. And I'm okay with that!"
