Taylor Swift congratulates Russell Westbrook on MVP Award in Twitter video

Taylor Swift has been pretty quiet as of late, but the pop star made a point to come out of social media hiding to congratulate Russell Westbrook on his NBA Awards win.

On Monday (June 26) at the inaugural basketball awards show, Oklahoma City Thunder player Russell Westbrook won the award for MVP, and as a part of his congratulations, the Thunder tweeted a video message from fan and friend Taylor Swift.

In the video, Swift jokingly said the two "go way back" and chronicled their friendship. "I was the one who taught you how to play basketball," she said. "I remember the first time you beat me at basketball and I was very upset and you said, if you remember correctly, you said, 'You just have to shake it off,' and I got an idea. So, essentially, we have each other to thank for these careers."

Later, the singer clarifies that though the story was false and they've never actually met, she is thrilled for Westbrook's accomplishments and wanted to send him congrats, nevertheless. With the blow of a kiss, she said, "You are amazing. You're the MVP. I'm so happy for you. I'm sending you the biggest hug ever."

Though the two don't actually go back "20 years" like Swift sarcastically said in the video, they do have a history of interacting on social media, like when Westbrook shared a video of himself jamming out to Swift's hit "Bad Blood," so it only made sense she would send him a video message in return.
