Lorde explains what it's like to be friends with Taylor Swift

Following the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album Melodrama, Lorde has become one of the hottest topics in pop. But one of the biggest tidbits fans have known about the 20-year-old for quite some time is her best friendship with Taylor Swift, and in a new interview with The Guardian, Lorde gave insight into what it's like being friends with the "Shake It Off" singer -- in a relatively odd metaphorical way.

"It's like having a friend with very specific allergies," she told the outlet, referring to Swift's mega-star-status that makes her a hot commodity in the public eye. "There are certain places you can't go together. Certain things you can't do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It's like having a friend with an autoimmune disease."

Lorde went on to explain that while she still hangs out with her old friends back in her home country of New Zealand, having a close circle of famous friends like Swift is a bit more practical for her in the States. She said, "It's an element of wanting to stick together. Because it can be so scary to do this. These friendships, they're about having a hand put on your shoulder by someone who knows. They're about hearing, 'I've done it, too.'"

In the interview, Lorde also spoke about making Melodrama, working intimately on the record with collaborator Jack Antonoff, her rise to fame, and what's next. Read the full article here.
