Country duo Dan + Shay dish on how to safely hit the road with your pets, their upcoming tour and their hit single 'How Not To'

It's impossible not to love platinum-selling country duo Dan + Shay. From letting their fans pick out their next hit single to hitting the road with their pets, the successful country singers told AOL what it's like going on tour with their favorite furry friends.

"Pets especially for us, are part of the family," Dan Smyers said. Keeping their pets safe is a big priority for Dan + Shay, so they've partnered up with Petco to share safety tips on traveling with animals this summer.

"Some of the things we bring is clean water, you've got to have water bottles and water bowls," Mooney said, and "toys for the dogs, we like to bring them a blanket, something from home that is familiar to them and makes them feel at home and not be so scared of being in a strange place."

Dan + Shay are currently hitting the open road across America with their OBSESSED tour, packing nearly every place they play -- including this year's CMA Fest.

While the country duo has experienced wild success with their love songs "From The Ground Up" and "Nothin' Like You," both Dan + Shay have a lot to be thankful for and stay humble by remembering where they came from.

"It's seriously a feeling we will never take for granted, Smyers said when dishing about the duo's latest single. "Growing up, listening to country radio and being such fans of country music, to have a song that is sitting at the top is, surreal, it's a dream come true."

"How Not To" is the latest single fans got to pick off their record OBSESSED and delivers a powerful heartbreak message with an even more stunning music video directed by Pete Tracy.

"The song itself is about addiction and not being able to get away from someone," Shay Mooney said. "We wanted to do something a little bit different, that kind of twist, in a way where it's not necessarily just talking about a person but we talked about alcoholism which is an issue that a lot of families deal with."

And in typical Dan + Shay fashion the music video would not be complete without the two characters falling in love.

"Through the power of love they overcome that addiction," Mooney said.
