Robert Pattinson: I was almost fired from 'Twilight'

Can you imagine the "Twilight" movies without one of its main stars?

That almost happened, according to star Robert Pattinson, who played brooding, sparkling vampire Edward Cullen. In an interview with The New York Times published over the weekend, he mentioned that he was almost fired from the first movie in the franchise after acting out, but his agents flew in to resolve the issue.

This echoes something Pattinson said in 2012 on the verge of the final film's release. He mentioned that he took method acting to such a "serious" level that he was fighting with almost everybody else and almost got fired.

"I was so determined to make it so serious," he said.

Pattinson was at the Cannes Film Festival last week, along with his new film "Good Time," in which he plays a narcissistic bank robber. While he didn't win any acting awards for the role, he did earn a lot of critical acclaim.

That gave him a moment to talk about his legacy, which was marred a bit by his presence in the "Twilight" movies. While the movies were commercially successful, the story about a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire was mostly a flop with critics.

According to the interview, Pattinson seems to have (at least partially) made peace with his most famous role.

"I think one of the best things, basically, about being a bit of a sellout," Pattinson said, is "if you've done five movies in a series, you've had to accept some responsibility for playing the same character."
