'Saturday Night Live' star Leslie Jones to host 2017 BET Awards

Actress and comedian Leslie Jones will host the 2017 BET Awards, marking her first major awards show gig.

The ceremony will air live Sunday, June 25, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on BET.

Jones, who broke out after playing herself on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" segment, is in her third year as an SNL castmember. Her film credits include the recent Ghostbusters reboot, Trainwreck, Chris Rock's Top Five, the animated musical Sing and Masterminds.

"I am so excited to be hosting The BET Awards this year," Jones said Wednesday in a statement. "BET was the first network and place where I was on TV. I am looking to turn this whole experience into a joyful homecoming."

The BET Awards are handed out in 19 categories, honoring best entertainers, artists and athletes. This year, Beyoncé continues her reign of the Lemonade era by receiving a total of seven nominations, including best collaboration with Kendrick Lamar for their song "Freedom," video of the year, album of the year and best female R&B/pop artist. Following closely behind is Bruno Mars with five noms that include video of the year and album of the year. Beyoncé's sister, Solange, Chance the Rapper and Migos each received four mentions.

This year's ceremony will coincide with the BET Experience at L.A. Live from June 22-25. The four-day festival will be home to various music concerts playing at The Novo by Microsoft and Staples Center. In addition, a BET Fan Fest will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, featuring seminars, celebrity meet-and-greets, star basketball games and special appearances.
