Florida man sues James Cameron for apparently stealing 'Titanic' story

We all know what happened on the Titanic -- and, likely, what happened in James Cameron's 1997 film Titanic. One Florida man, however, claims the story is his ... and wants $300 million for it.

Stephen Cummings is suing director James Cameron for apparently using his life story. Cummings claims that his life in the yacht industry was the inspiration for the character Jack Dawson.

Lawsuit documents assert that Cameron heard about Cummings and events that took place in 1987 and 1988 through word-of-mouth. Apparently, Cummings told friends a story of relatives on the Titanic where the wife survived but the husband did not -- just like in the movie.

Whether Cummings will be granted the $300 million (and 1 percent of royalties) is unknown.
