The couple, who met in late 2015 on Higgins' season of the hit ABC dating show, have been together for a little over a year and were living together in Denver, Colorado.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways," they told People in a joint statement on Monday. "We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time."

Higgins famously told both Bushnell and runner-up JoJo Fletcher that he loved them, which was a controversial decision that divided viewers. Higgins ultimately chose Bushnell and proposed to her during the show's March 2016 finale. Fletcher went on to star on her own season of "The Bachelorette" and is currently engaged to Jordan Rodgers, who she chose in the finale of her season last summer.

Higgins and Bushnell went on to star in "Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After?" on Freeform, which chronicled their lives together as an engaged couple and only lasted for one season.

The now-former couple joins a long list of people that came out of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" that ultimately broke up as the attention around them died down.

Niall Viall, the most recent star of "The Bachelor," is still seemingly going strong with his winner, Vanessa Grimaldi, as his ex Rachel Lindsay prepares for her season of "The Bachelorette," slated to premiere May 22.
