'Modern Family' renewed: ABC closes deal for Seasons 9 and 10

ABC is strengthening its Modern Family ties.

After months of painstaking negotiations with 20th Century Fox TV, the Alphabet net has finalized a new two-season renewal deal that will keep the Emmy-winning comedy on the air through Season 10.

The series' six core adult actors — Ed O'Neill, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet — were reportedly seeking significant pay-hikes in exchange for a two-year commitment. Each had been pocketing $350K an episode.

"Modern Family has been the centerpiece of our comedy brand for eight seasons and we are thrilled to have it on our schedule for two more years," said ABC president Channing Dungey in a statement.

Added EP Steve Levitan: "We are beyond thrilled that we get to spend more time with these characters, these amazing actors, our ridiculously-talented writers and our incredible crew — all of whom are like family to us. And the good kind of family, not the kind that argues with you all the time."

With the two-season, 44-episode order, Modern Family's episode tally will reach at least 232.
