Joe Walsh faces backlash after slamming Jimmy Kimmel's 'sad story'

Updated

Most were likely moved by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel's recent story about his newborn son's heart condition and appeal for continued health care coverage for pre-existing conditions.

It appears that radio host and former Republican Representative Joe Walsh was not.

In response to Kimmel's emotional monologue, Walsh tweeted, "Sorry Jimmy Kimmel: your sad story doesn't obligate me or anybody else to pay for somebody else's health care."

People magazine notes that "Twitter was quick to criticize Walsh for his tweet, with some reminding the former Congressman about his $117,000 child support scandal, an issue he settled in 2012."

Comments posted to the social media platform included, "You really wanna bring up the 'pay for your children' thing?" and, "thank you for having the courage to fight against those conniving evil takers, sick children."

Comedian Patton Oswalt weighed in as well.

He tweeted, "Joe, you won't even pay child support for your OWN kids. We already knew you felt this way, you worm. No need to tell us — we're good."
