Samantha Bee is ready to host the most buzzed-about event in Washington, DC, this weekend and, no, it's not the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The "Full Frontal" host will be at the helm of the Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday at DAR Constitution Hall, which will be aired later that night on TBS at 10 p.m. The event, which was initially announced back in January, has been in conception ever since Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election back in November.
Bee recently opened up to Vulture about the event, which is set be attended by big names like Rachel Bloom, Padma Lakshmi and Keegan-Michael Key, and she made sure to note that it won't just be an anti-Trump affair. It's more of a celebration of journalism.
"This really is, for us, a celebration of the journalism that makes our show possible," she said. "So we are just here to celebrate the freedom of the press, for as long as we have it. Hopefully we'll have it forever."
The event will mirror White House Correspondents' Dinners of the past in a couple of ways, including the fact that it will be a black-tie dinner (though, it will be filmed in the afternoon). Bee and her production staff will be dressed for the occasion by Rent the Runway.
"I had been following Samantha Bee's coverage of the election and new administration and was super inspired by her relentless focus on the empowerment of women, so I knew we needed to find a way for Rent the Runway to support her cause and dress every woman involved," Rent the Runway CEO Jennifer Hyman told AOL. "Just like Samantha Bee is an anomaly being a female late-night host, Rent the Runway is also unfortunately an anomaly as a female-founded and female-led, VC-funded tech startup (over 65% of our employees are women!). Partnering with Samantha Bee, we hope to further the movement of women supporting other women."
We don't know what we're more excited for -- the jokes or the dresses?!
