Montag, 30, and Pratt, 33, who got married in 2009 while on the hugely popular MTV reality show, had only been trying to conceive for a month when Montag found out she had a bun in the oven.

"I wanted a baby three years ago," Montag confessed to Us. "Spencer was a little hesitant. Then one thing after another came up. We had work obligations, like 'Celebrity Big Brother' in the U.K., which I did not want to be pregnant for. I'm actually really thankful we waited. I thought I was ready in my twenties, but with everything we had going on, it just wouldn't have been a good situation for us."

Now, with "more life experience," the pair is ready to grow their family at their home away from the spotlight in Santa Barbara, Calif. Speidi, as the couple was known at the height of their fame during their time on "The Hills," don't know if they'll find out the gender of their baby before it's born, though they're both in agreement on what they want the sex to be.

"I'm hoping for a boy," Montag confessed. "I've always wanted a boy first --"

"Notice she says 'first,'" Pratt interjected.

"Yep. First! I'd love to have a son and for the Pratt name to continue," she finished.

Montag is 12 weeks pregnant and revealed her due date to be October 19.
