Dwayne Johnson is officially slated to produce and star in "Jungle Cruise," a new film inspired by Walt Disney World's popular theme park ride. Production begins in spring 2018.

It's excellent news for Disney, seeing as the concept's been in development for more than a decade: The Hollywood Reporter says the company has been trying to launch "Jungle Cruise" from the dock since at least 2004. Johnson has been linked to the project since 2015, but the deal has only just closed.

While now most known for its spot in the Magic Kingdom, the Jungle Cruise is a popular attraction in multiple Disneyland parks, including those in Anaheim, Tokyo and Hong Kong. It first debuted in 1955 at in Anaheim's Disneyland -- the Orlando version didn't open until more than two decades later, when the Magic Kingdom first opened its gates.

The ride is known for its goofy tour guides, who tell corny (and, therefore, excellent) jokes during the winding journey through mysterious caves, past playful elephants and even behind a waterfall. Just gotta watch out for Chief Nami, who sells shrunken heads. We suspect Johnson's script will deviate from this storyline.

Johnson is no stranger to Disney: In 2016, he starred in "Moana," and he used to often appear as himself in Disney Channel shows, including "Hannah Montana" and "Wizards of Waverly Place."
