Kristi Yamaguchi makes hilarious 'DWTS' sign for Nancy Kerrigan

Updated

Kristi Yamaguchi is still hoping Nancy Kerrigan breaks a leg!

The former professional ice skater took to Instagram during Monday night's episode of "Dancing With the Stars" to urge her followers to vote for her friend and "roomie" with a picture of a hilariously tongue-in-cheek sign.

The photo shows both of the legendary athletes posing in front of trailers on the "DWTS" set with a colorful sign adorned with gold lettering that reads, "BREAK A LEG NANCY!"

"A special sign to cheer on my roomie @nancykerrigan," Yamaguchi captioned the photo along with an emoji sticking its tongue out. "Vote!!!"

Clearly, Yamaguchi, who won "Dancing With the Stars" back in 2008, is referencing her cringe-worthy tweet from a couple of weeks ago when she told Kerrigan to "break a leg" during her first week competing on the hit ABC competition show.

"So excited for you @NancyAKerrigan," she tweeted on March 20. "Can't wait to see you grace that ballroom floor, break a leg!"

The tweet quickly went viral for its seemingly unintentional allusion to Kerrigan famously injuring her knee after getting attacked back in 1994 before the U.S. Championships, though the tweet didn't seem to bother Kerrigan. She quickly shot back a friendly response to her longtime friend thanking her for the well wishes.

Though Kerrigan didn't seem bothered by the slip-up, fans on Twitter were quick to react. Check out the best responses in the gallery below:

Through the first three weeks of competition, Kerrigan has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with on the show. She and her partner Artem Chigvintsev are definite dark horses in this twenty-fourth season of "Dancing With the Stars" and can hold their own alongside front-runners Normani Kordei, Heather Morris and Simone Biles.
