Michael was reportedly buried at London's Highgate Cemetery, a source told People -- next to his mother, Lesley, who passed away 20 years ago.

"George Michael's family would like to thank his fans across the world for their many messages of love and support," the statement continued. "We ask that the family's wish for privacy be respected so that they can continue to live their lives privately, away from any media intrusion. No further details will be released."

Michael's burial comes three weeks after Darren Salter (senior coroner for Oxfordshire) revealed that the singer -- who passed away at his home in Oxfordshire county, southern England on Dec. 25 of 2016 -- died of "dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver." He was 53.
