Mischa Barton breaks her silence on sex tape: 'My absolute worst fear was realized'

Updated

Mischa Barton held a press conference on Wednesday morning to address rumors that there's a sex tape featuring the former "O.C." actress that's being shopped around Hollywood.

Barton addressed the media in a serious tone and revealed that she had no idea that her romantic partner had been filming their intimate moments together.

"I just want to say that I have been put through an incredibly hard and trying time," she read off a sheet of paper. "This is a painful situation, and my absolute worst fear was realized when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent [and] with hidden cameras."

"And then I learned something even worse: That someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public," she continued.

Rumors that the tape existed emerged earlier this week. Reports followed that Kevin Blatt was shopping the tape, which he received from a third party, around Hollywood for a starting price of $500,000.

In a statement released through her attorney, Lisa Bloom, on Tuesday night, Barton and her legal team announced Wednesday's press conference and promised to take "new legal action against alleged purveyors of revenge pornography."

"Ms. Barton does not consent to disclosure of any such images, and believes she was recorded without her consent," the statement read.

Barton finished her press conference by announcing the bigger reason for her desire to take legal action against those who are allegedly trying to sell the sex tape.

"I came forward to fight this not only for myself, but for all the women out there," she revealed. "I want to protect them from the pain and humiliation that I have had to go through. No woman should have to go through this, and I am beyond grateful to Lisa Bloom -- The Bloom Firm -- and to all of my friends who have helped me through this horrific experience."
