Apparently Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez go way back ...

Though the news of their blossoming romance comes at a surprise to most, the singer and the retired MLB player exchanged a few words and handshakes 12 years ago -- could this be the moment they first met?!

Lopez, who hails from the Bronx, is (of course) a diehard Yankees fan, so she's attended a few games when her busy schedule has allowed for it. At a showdown against the Mets in 2005, she had the pleasure of chatting it up with her now-boyfriend.

The "Shades of Blue" looked totally starstruck (naturally) while shaking hands with the all-star shortstop at the time.

The Latina pop diva looked totally sporty in a white Yankee hat that she paired with a simple camel-colored sweater for the chilly spring day.

A source revealed Jennifer and Alex have been dating "for a few weeks." The news of their romance comes at a surprise, especially because they both have just gotten out of relationships. Rodriguez split with Silicon Valley CEO Anne Wojcicki in February after dating for just under a year, while Lopez quietly called things off with rapper Drake.

The new pair have a lot of things in common, including their Latin roots and children of similar age, so this may be a match made in heaven. Most importantly, they might have the best couple name in the game -- "J-Rod."
