'Saturday Night Live' star Pete Davidson: 'I quit drugs and am happy and sober for the first time in 8 years'

"Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson took to Instagram on Monday to give fans a major, uplifting update on his life.

In the heartfelt post, the 23-year-old revealed that he's "sober for the first time in 8 years."

"Just wanted to let you guys know I'm okay," he wrote. "I know I've kinda been missing, on social media and on the show. I quit drugs and am happy and sober for the first time in 8 years. It wasn't easy, but I got a great girl, great friends and I consider myself a lucky man."

Davidson, who became the first-ever "SNL" cast member to be born in the '90s when he joined the show in Sept. 2014, had been appearing on the show less frequently as of late, and he wanted to clear the air.

The "great girl" that he mentioned during his admission is actress Cazzie David, the daughter of comedian Larry David, who Davidson has been dating for about a year now. He told People last year that he loves her "very, very much" and called her father "the sweetest man in the world."

He went on to encourage his fans to continue supporting one another, calling them his "family."

"I'll always be here for you guys, I promise," he concluded. "Remember to never give up hope because sometimes that's all we got. We are a family and I appreciate all your love and support. It's nice to be back in action."
