Meryl Streep wears Elie Saab to 2017 Oscars after dress drama with Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld

Updated

Meryl Streep made a dramatic entrance at the 2017 Oscars with a non-Chanel ensemble.

The 67-year-old Hollywood star wore a gorgeous blue pant-dress by Lebanese fashion house Elie Saab instead.

Streep found herself at the center of controversy a couple of days ago after Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld claimed the 20-time nominee turned down one of his dresses because they wouldn't pay her to wear the gown.

The "Florence Foster Jenkins" star slammed Lagerfeld's claims, and the designer released a statement early Saturday claiming the whole fiasco was simply a "misunderstanding."

However, the legendary actress wasn't going to let it slide, slamming the apology in a fiery statement:

"Subsequently, the story was picked up globally, and continues, globally, to overwhelm my appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of my record breaking 20th nomination, and to eclipse this honor in the eyes of the media, my colleagues and the audience. I do not take this lightly, and Mr. Lagerfeld's generic 'statement' of regret for this 'controversy' was not an apology."

Meryl let her look do all the talking at the ceremony, dazzling in the sparkly ensemble complete with a statement belt and clutch of the same hue.

However, the actress experienced a scary moment during her walk down the red carpet, almost tripping as her heel got caught in her dress. Watch the moment that was way too close for comfort:

Host Jimmy Kimmel then put her in the hot seat over her outfit during his opening monologue, but it was all in good fun:

"Nice dress by the way, is that an Ivanka?" he asked her to roars of laughter, aiming the diss at President Donald Trump's daughter as well.

Streep was nominated for Best Actress for her role in "Florence Foster Jenkins," losing to "La La Land" star Emma Stone.
