Britney Spears gives promising update on her niece after ATV accident

Updated

Britney Spears took to Twitter on Wednesday night to give a promising update on her niece, Maddie's, condition following her scary ATV accident over the weekend.

The 8-year-old daughter of Jamie Lynn Spears and her ex Casey Aldridge was submerged in a lake on her family's property for two minutes on Sunday after a freak accident on her ATV. Though her mother and stepfather, Jamie Watson, were close by, they had trouble rescuing her before paramedics arrived on the scene.

"We are so grateful to share that Maddie is making progress," Spears wrote on Twitter. "Thank you all for sending thoughts and prayers our way. Let's all keep praying."

Spears' uplifting note came one day after it had been revealed that Maddie was "awake and talking" following two days of reports that she was in critical condition.

"With her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday, February 7. The 8-year-old daughter of entertainer Jamie Lynn Spears was involved in an ATV accident at a family home Sunday in Kentwood, La," a family statement released on Tuesday said. "Paramedics resuscitated her and she was airlifted to a local hospital. She is aware of her surroundings and recognizes those family members who have kept a round-the-clock vigil since the accident."

We're glad to hear that Maddie's condition is continuing to improve!
