New research reveals what it takes to win an Oscar

Think you have what it takes to win an Oscar?

According to new research, there's more to it than just having good acting chops.

Researchers at the University of Queensland School of Psychology studied 908 prize winners including winners and nominees for Oscars and BAFTA's.

In the end they found American actors won almost 69% of all Oscars and 52% of all BAFTA's.

On top of that, the chances of winning an Oscar increased if the American actor and jury members shared the same social group.

That's not all. Apparently 88% of winners were part of films portraying American culture.

Your best best for grabbing that gold would be if you were an American actor portraying American culture with some American jurors.

However, all this research doesn't explain why it took Leonardo DiCaprio so long to get his Oscar, what with The Aviator, J Edgar and The Wolf of Wall Street being as American as you can get.

Maybe there were just less Americans on the jury those years?
