John Legend talks about his first-ever Super Bowl ad, social justice and the importance of art

There is no doubt about it -- John Legend is truly one-of-a-kind in Hollywood. The Grammy winner, producer, social activist and actor sat down with AOL.com to talk about his collaboration with LIFEWTR, the importance of making art, and the social justice issues facing America today.

"The reason why we're working with LIFEWTR is because they celebrate art," the singer said. "They celebrate artists and creativity."

LIFEWTR, a new premium bottled water the 10-time Grammy winner partnered with, is no ordinary beverage. It uses its label as a platform so emerging artists can be seen on a broader scale. And its upcoming Super Bowl ad features Legend's chart-topping Love Me Now.

"I tailored Love Me Now for this commercial and tweaked the lyrics a little bit to fit the theme of creativity and inspiration," he said. "I'm excited for people to hear it on my first Super Bowl commercial and LIFEWTR's first commercial ever."

So who is he rooting for in the big game? Well...

"My team is long gone," Legend laughs. "I see reasons why I would like both teams to win. I know it's going to be a high-scoring game and a lot of fun to watch. We'll be there at the game. I'm excited for that."

Inspiration, which is a major theme in Legend's work and LIFEWTR's core values, is a sentiment that has been felt not only across social media but with youth across the nation. He and his wife, supermodel Chrissy Teigen, have won the hearts of many young people with their outspoken views, especially in the current political climate.

"A lot of people are worried about the future we're in and a lot of people are concerned about the future," the social activist shared. "As artists we have the ability to express those concerns in interesting ways that could be really beautiful.

"[When] you have something to be angry about, it helps you to create," Legend said.

As far as his hopes in his daughter Luna's future, he's staying positive.

"I think about individually what I want for her. I want her to be happy," the first-time father said. "I want her to be kind, I want her to be smart, I want her to be a leader, accomplished in what she wants to do."

Best dad award goes to John Legend?

"Societally, I think about things like ending poverty, making sure everyone has access to health care, making sure everyone has the food they need to eat, making sure we protect our environment," Legend said. "Those are obviously utopian dreams that probably most people would share but you know, I think that's what our leadership should be aiming for, in that direction."

Consider us inspired.
