The best Carrie Fisher performances outside of 'Star Wars'

With Carrie Fisher's death on Tuesday, the world is looking back on her incredible life and career, where she'll always be remembered most for playing the iconic role of Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" franchise.

But Fisher was so much more than just a princess in a galaxy far, far away.

Along with being a best-selling author and script doctor, she also had close to 90 screen credits over a 41-year career. It's a wide-range selection from the supportive girlfriend in "When Harry Met Sally" to playing Peter's boss in "Family Guy."

Here we highlight the roles Fisher played in both movies and TV outside of the "Star Wars" saga.

"Shampoo" (1975)

Columbia Pictures

In her first movie role, Fisher plays one of the girls who can't resist the looks and charm of hairdresser George (played by Warren Beatty).

"The Blues Brothers" (1980)

Universal Pictures

Fisher plays a woman determined to kill her ex-fiancée Jake Blues (John Belushi) in the most sensational ways possible. She never succeeds, and left instead are some outrageous moments in a comedy classic.

"Under the Rainbow" (1981)

Orion Pictures

Never shy to star in movies that went against the grain ("Star Wars" certainly was that), here Fisher stars opposite Chevy Chase in an outlandish comedy set in a LA hotel where auditions for "The Wizard of Oz" are being done. (Yeah, this one is out there!)

"The Man with One Red Shoe" (1985)

20th Century Fox

Fisher plays a woman having an affair with a man (Tom Hanks) who is caught up in a CIA mission.

"Hannah and Her Sisters" (1986)

Orion Pictures

It's kind of a tragedy that Fisher only starred in one Woody Allen movie — her style seemed perfect for his movies — but at least we got one. In "Hannah and Her Sisters" she plays April, an actress who starts a catering company with Holly (Dianne Weist). The two quickly get into a fight when going after the same guy.

"Amazon Women on the Moon" (1987)

This movie, filled with hilarious sketches and centered around a fake 1950s B-movie, ends with one of its best skits, a black-and-white sex-ed PSA parody titled "Reckless Youth" in which Fisher plays a naive girl thrust into the drugs and sex of New York City nightlife.

"The 'Burbs" (1989)

Teaming up again with Hanks, Fisher this time has the more authoritative role as she plays the level-headed wife of a husband (Hanks) who is convinced his neighbor down the street is a murderer. It's one of the most underrated comedies of the 1980s.

"When Harry Met Sally" (1989)

Columbia Pictures

Probably the role most associated with Fisher beyond "Star Wars," in Rob Reiner's classic she plays one of Sally's (Meg Ryan) best friends, who Sally tries to match Harry (Billy Crystal) up with, but they instantly don't hit it off. This is one of the best examples of how great Fisher was with comedic material.

"Soapdish" (1991)

Paramount Pictures

Fisher plays an executive on a popular soap who loves being — in her own words — the "b--tch," and enjoys getting guys to take their shirts off during their audition.

"Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (1997)

New Line Cinema

Fisher has a great cameo as a group therapist, playing the straight man opposite Dr. Evil (Mike Meyers) and his son Scott (Seth Green) as the two try to work out their differences.

"Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist" (1998)

Comedy Central

The animated series that became a cult classic after running on Comedy Central in the late 1990s, the show would feature known comics and celebrities who would go through therapy sessions with Dr. Katz (voiced by comedian Jonathan Katz). In one episode, Fisher showed up as Katz' ex-wife, Roz, and the two have an entertaining exchange about the prescription drugs she's using.

"Family Guy" (2005-2016)

For over a decade, Fisher would pop in from time to time and play Peter's boss at the brewery, Angela, on the hit animated show. Fisher was perfect in the role.

"30 Rock" (2007)

Desperate to find a strong female voice for her show, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) calls on her idol, Rosemary (Fisher), a comedy writer from the 1960s. But she soon realizes Rosemary is quite lonesome these days. Fisher's mix of comedy and touching somberness in her guest spot earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination.

"Wishful Drinking" (HBO)

In a life embedded in Hollywood and filled with sex, drugs, and "Star Wars," of course Fisher was going to do a tell-all one-woman show. Her hilarious rendition for HBO earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination.

"Catastrophe" (2015)

On the Amazon show, Fisher plays the awful mother of Rob (Rob Delaney). Once more showing off her expert comedic chops, this time in horrific enjoyment, her appearance on the show (sometimes with her real-life dog, Gary) always kicked the show up a notch.
