Paul Simon offers condolences over ex-wife Carrie Fisher's passing

Renowned actress Carrie Fisher's ex-husband Paul Simon -- one half of Simon & Garfunkel -- took to Twitter early Wednesday morning to offer his condolences, writing, "Yesterday was a horrible day. Carrie was a special, wonderful girl. It's too soon."

Fisher -- who passed away on Tuesday, at the age of 60, following a heart attack and subsequent hospitalization last week -- was married to Simon briefly from 1983 to 1984.

The two met while Fisher was filming the original Star Wars movie in 1977, dating and movie into an apartment together shortly after. Though they suffered relationship problems surrounding Fisher's drug use at the time, the two married in 1983 and divorced a year later.

Following their divorce the two dated on-and-off for a decade, with Simon creating his 1983 song "Hearts and Bones" about Fisher. The track's lyrics detail their relationship: "The arc of a love affair/ Waiting to be restored/ You take two bodies and you twirl them into one/ Their hearts and their bones/ And they won't come undone."
