From Beyoncé's 'Lemonade' to Britney Spears' return to 'Glory': The best albums of 2016

2016 was full of major moments in music: Beyoncé continued to surprise and innovate on "Lemonade," Rihanna veered left on "Anti," Kanye West altered "The Life of Pablo" even after he had released it and Miranda Lambert left it all out on the table on "The Weight of These Wings."

Our top pick of the year was Beyoncé's "Lemonade," because nothing else released over the past 12 months came even close to matching its quality, power, significance, scope or influence. We all knew that Beyoncé was capable of surprise (See: 2013's surprise release, "BEYONCÉ"), but with "Lemonade," the modern day legend took it one step further, delving even deeper into her life to produce the most personal, affecting album of her career.
