'Dancing With the Stars' serves up Halloween horrors and sweet treats (Video)

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on if you haven't watched Monday's "Dancing With the Stars")

"Dancing With the Stars" always delivers spectacular costumes but the contestants pulled out all the stops for Halloween on Monday.

As always, one unlucky couple faced the horror of elimination as they failed to get any treats in their Halloween candy.

And the victim this week was ... Ryan Lochte.

"I learned a lot about myself, no matter how hard I get knocked down, I can keep on fighting," Lochte said has he was told the bad news. "I am sad I am going home, but everyone has touched me in a special place."

Before she landed in the bottom two, "Little Women L.A." reality Terra Jolé proved she was larger than life with a "Beetlejuice"-inspired performance, which was described as "really good" but not great and failed to wow anyone despite the creepy Tim Burton theme.

Gymnast Laurie Hernandez has been in a slump after getting a perfect score a few weeks ago. Thankfully Bruno Tonioli called her latest dance a sweet treat and said the Olympian's acting "had improved a thousand-fold," while Carrie-Ann Inaba tearfully called it "divine."

Marilu Henner took on the challenge of spinning an Argentine tango inside a spider's lair, which Julianne Hough described as "Black Widow sexy hot mamma ... you could have eaten Derek alive," but Inaba said Henner had a lot of missteps.

Just like when he was playing in the NFL, Calvin Johnson Jr. came in with a lot to live up to after landing at the top of the leaderboard last week — and live up to it he did, with a lively skeletal "Dr. Bones" dance. The former football star was "superb" Tonioli praised, while Inaba said it reminded her of another NFL icon, Emmitt Smith, as all the judges handed Johnson a perfect score.

Before he got the boot, Lochte said in a preview clip that he hates Halloween (and he probably won't like it any better after this week) as the Olympian attempted to climb back up the leaderboard and step it up "two notches." Not quite the menacing Prince of Darkness that he was aiming for, Lochte got mixed and chilly reviews from the judges after surviving "Cheryl's House of Pain."

Country singer Jana Kramer's "Little Shop of Horrors" jive showed off her flexibility by being "very, very bendy," Tonioli said, dubbing it "a musical comedy concoction that hit all the right spots."

IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe had to opt for a new partner after Sharna Burgess was injured last week. He more than made up for it with his stand-in however with a thrilling turn as The Joker and Harley Quinn from "Suicide Squad."

"Despite a new set of wheels, you still delivered a ride of a lifetime," Tonioli said in his pun-heavy judgement. Hinchcliffe earned the third perfect score of the night, and earned immunity for the week.

"Dancing With the Stars" airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m.
