Leonard Cohen says he's 'ready to die'

The "godfather of gloom" -- also known as Leonard Cohen -- recently revealed to The New Yorkerthat he feels he is, in fact, prepared to embrace the end. "I am ready to die," he told the magazine. "I hope it's not too uncomfortable. That's about it for me." Currently, Cohen is gearing up for the release of his latest album You Want It Darker out Oct. 21, and his recent revelation proves just how dark he can get.

Elsewhere in the profile, Cohen discussed his past work, which includes a surplus of unfinished poems and songs he said he doesn't think he will be able to finish in the coming years. Though he quickly continued, "Maybe, who knows? And maybe I'll get a second wind, I don't know... I've got some work to do. Take care of business."

Such sentiment is also expressed on the upcoming album's title track, in which Cohen sings, "I'm ready, my Lord." Cohen's health has been declining in recent years, and in July, he wrote a letter to his frequent writing inspiration Marianne Ihlen (who died shortly after) stating "Well Marianne, it's come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine."
