Monica Potter shares a festive fall DIY project and dishes on her new HGTV show

Monica Potter may be famous for her roles on huge TV hits like, "Parenthood," but the Golden Globe-nominated star also has an entirely different life outside of the bright lights of Tinseltown and she's sharing it with her fans on her new HGTV show, "Welcome Back Potter."

Potter's new show -- which premieres on HGTV October 11 -- features her return to her beloved hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where she and her three sisters and mother are restoring her childhood home.

The Potters bought the home about four years ago after it had been abandoned for more than six years by the previous owner, whom they sold it to in 1987.

"It was a total disaster," Potter lamented of the house during an interview with AOL on Monday.

But, despite the house being in total disarray, Potter and her siblings all came together to renovate every inch of the property back to its former glory -- naturally, they documented the whole thing on HGTV!

"We fought like boys every day. There were swear words and everything, but at the end of the day we all love each other. I also think it was because there was so much emotion from being back in the house. One of us would have a memory, and we'd talk about how we remembered different things growing up," Potter said. " It brought us closer together."

The home turns out incredible -- trust us, we got a sneak peek -- and it's a true joy to see the warmth and personality of Potter and her siblings on TV together.

As for how she landed on an HGTV show? Technically, the DIY bug runs in the 45-year-old actress' blood -- her dad was an inventor and encouraged her to take on new projects and try new things. She also isn't a stranger to making things with her hands and has a popular home goods store, Monica Potter Home, with two brick-and-mortar spaces in Ohio. The shop sells amazing homemade products like candles, sea buckthorn balm, and a variety of decorative items.

Potter shared one of her best fall DIY projects with us below -- pumpkin vases! Check out the "how to" on her website, or watch the video above to see the whole project in action.

Don't forget to tune into HGTV to catch her new show, "Welcome Back Potter" October 11 at 11 PM/10 Central.
