Jim Carrey tested positive for STDs under name 'Jose Lopez,' ex's mom claims in lawsuit

Jim Carrey has once again been slapped with a wrongful death lawsuit over the September 2015 suicide of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White — this time by White's mother.

In a lawsuit that heavily echoes a lawsuit filed previously by White's estranged husband Mark Burton, Brigid Sweetman claims that the "Ace Ventura" star infected White with multiple STDs without telling her, misled her about the symptoms of the diseases, and provided her with illegally obtained drugs that ultimately led to her death.

The new suit also claims that Carrey used "fixers" to smear White's relatives following her death.

"Mr. Carrey took steps to conceal and obfuscate his involvement and culpability in Mr. White's untimely and tragic death. These steps included Carrey once again enlisting his Hollywood 'fixers' to spread lies about Ms. White's family, all in an effort to distract attention away from his outrageous and abusive behavior," the suit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, reads.

The suit goes on to claim that Carrey tested positive "for numerous STDs" in a test administered in January 2013, with Carrey using the false name Jose Lopez for the test.

Ultimately, the complaint claims, Carrey transmitted chlamydia and two types of herpes to White without informing her that she was infected. Sweetman further claims that Carrey "manipulated and pressured her" after she confronted him, and White ultimately agreed to keep quiet about the infections.

"Ms. White continued to struggle emotionally with what Carrey had done and how he manipulated and pressured her, even in the months and days leading to her death," the lawsuit reads. "This ultimately was a significant cause of Ms. White ending her life."

Another significant cause, according to the suit: The drugs Ambien propranolol and oxycodone, which the suit alleges Carrey obtained under the name Arthur King.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Carrey's lawyer Martin Singer said that White had complained of having a "contentious relationship" with Sweetman, and claimed that they had been "estranged for years."

"It is understandable that a mother who has lost a daughter will look for someone to blame. But in directing her grief and rage at Jim Carrey and joining this ridiculous lawyer's attempt to capitalize on Cathriona's suicide, Mrs. Sweetman is heading down the same dark path as Cathriona's green-card 'husband,' Mark Burton," Singer said. "On her 30th birthday, just a few days before her suicide, Cathriona White was distraught having received a message from her mother through Facebook that was so destructive and demoralizing that she instantly deleted her Facebook account so her mother could no longer contact her. Cathriona often lamented about her contentious relationship with her mother, how she was forced to leave home at the age of 15, and how they had been estranged for years."

In her own statement, Sweetman said the actor "should be ashamed."

"Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter. And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat's husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did," Sweetman said.

"As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is – a man that will give your daughter three STDs, lie about it, call her terrible names and demean her, use his high priced lawyers to try and shut her and her family up, and then give her illegal drugs," Sweetman continued. "Every mother and father that has a daughter should read Cat's handwritten letter to Jim and decide for themselves what kind of guy he really is."
