If Justin Theroux's wedding vows were anything like his recent remarks about wife Jennifer Aniston, there wasn't a dry eye in the congregation.

In a new interview with U.K.'s The Sunday Times, Theroux praises the 47-year-old actress for how she deals with tabloid rumors and media firestorms, most recently being the news that her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, is divorcing Angelina Jolie. "She has lived through a lot of bulls**t," he says. "Many people would have crumbled under some of the stresses that have been put on her. I'm very proud of her for that, for the way she handles herself."

"Truly, in that sense, she's amazing," Theroux goes on to brag, calling Aniston a "proper badass."

The 45-year-old star notes that his wife of one year "understands that she is someone who has attracted, for whatever reason, a level of attention where she's become this sort of fable," and adorably gushes that "it's an honor to stand behind her."

Since getting with Aniston, Theroux also has experienced the dark side of fame, and says, at first, he would "casually pay attention to" to the headlines, until he realized it was like "eating poison."

"There are definitely times when I don't like walking past the newsstand in the U.S.," Theroux admits, adding that he's "constantly surprised" by strangers who congratulate him on the birth of his child, which undoubtedly stems from false tabloid reports. "It's really insane."

Theroux also comments on how "well written" Aniston's recent op-ed was about the "objectification and scrutiny" she faces in the media. "I was very, very proud of her for writing that," he touts. "She expressed herself beautifully."

As for whether fans can expect Aniston and Theroux to star in another movie together, like they did in the 2012 comedy Wanderlust, he isn't against the idea. "It'd be more convenient. We could see each other more," Theroux says. "Would it be weird? I don't know. If it was the right thing. Or something I wrote that she would act in."

While chatting with ET at a recent junket for his upcoming movie, The Girl On a Train, Theroux was also super sweet when asked about why it works with Aniston. "We appreciate each other's sense of humor, we respect one another and we get along," he pointed out. "I know it sounds simple but it's true!"
