The NRA made a joke about the Kim Kardashian armed robbery on Twitter

Following Kim Kardashian's scary armed robbery late on Sunday night in Paris, the worst side of the internet came out to make light of the incident.

It wasn't just anonymous Twitter trolls that joked and taunted Kardashian about the crime, though: The National Rifle Association notably used the robbery -- during which Kardashian was tied up, gagged and held at gunpoint -- to make a joke of its own.

"Wait, criminals held @KimKardashian at gunpoint in Paris?" the NRA's official Twitter asked to nobody in particular. "How is that possible? Does anyone know if they passed a background check first?"

They weren't done, though. They followed up the insensitive tweet with two more sarcastic messages.

"It's shocking that these criminals did not subject themselves to Paris' strict #guncontrol laws before committing this awful crime," one tweet read.

"Stronger gun laws ... like the ones they have in Paris?" read another. "#askingforafriend"
