In the video, Gaga stomps and sings her way through the desert wearing a series of impossibly short shorts before arriving at a massive strobe-lit party, surrounded by black-clad partiers also losing themselves to dance. She ends, appropriately to the song's theme, alone again in the desert.

The video was directed by longtime collaborator Ruth Hogben, a noted fashion photographer and filmmaker. Hogben has joined Gaga on many creative endeavors throughout her career, photographing the singer for various shoots and directing her video interludes from the Monster Ball and artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball tours.

The video is the beginning of a new era for the pop star. In an interview with Zane Lowe last week, she revealed the name of her album, Joanne, along with more details about the project, including collaborators Hillary Lindsey (Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel") and a release date of Oct. 21.

"Perfect Illusion" debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Oct. 1).
