When it comes to comedy heroines, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more beloved than Bridget Jones. The romantically-challenged journalist, played with droll intelligence and wit by Renee Zellweger, is back again in "Bridget Jones' Baby," this time in the family way -- with paternity up for grabs.

The two contenders: Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey. We spoke to Zellweger and Dempsey about working together. Here's what you need to know.

Zellweger, in her third outing as the iconic British singleton, admits that yes, she felt a little nervous. "All of that, yeah. Absolutely. A little bit of trepidation never hurt anybody. You want to do a good job. You don't want to do anything for the sake of it either."

Yes, she feels a bit of ownership of Bridget Jones; she earned an Oscar nomination for the first film. "Tiny bit. Just a tiny bit. Truly a tiny bit. Just good enough is not good enough."

Dempsey plays a new entrant into the series, an American heartthrob who woos Bridget. "This is a new character that's been introduced. He's a good guy. Bridget has two really great choices. One has this history and one is unknown to her. That's the dilemma."

Zellweger has no specific tools in her arsenal for approaching Bridget. "In terms of mantras, no. I always try to keep her truthful and authentic."

Dempsey and Firth play rivals. That didn't translate into real life. "He and I got along right away. Overall a nice guy. We had great chemistry, all three of us."
