Red Carpet Rewind: Relive the 2001 Emmy Awards

Updated

The 2001 Emmy Awards almost didn't happen.

In the wake of 9/11, the Television Academy was wary of holding the ceremony, which was supposed to happen just days after the attacks. After being delayed twice (making it the only major award ceremony in American history that was postponed two times), the Emmys took place almost two months later on November 4, 2001. And, in addition to bringing TV's biggest names together for an uplifting show in the wake of tragedy, the ceremony was a total game changer.

With it's win for Outstanding Comedy Series, HBO's "Sex And The City" became the first cable program to ever win the major award. This signaled a huge shift in the nature of television, with producers and executives noting the power of cable in the landscape of quality television.

When you look at the photos from the red carpet at the 2001 Emmys, there are more than a few other major differences from 2016 that you can spot. Of course, the style was drastically different: Women conservative, long-sleeved looks and men in ill-fitting suits.

There were also some notable couples that, naturally, aren't together anymore: Jessica Alba walked the red carpet with her date, Michael Weatherly, while Jennifer Garner stepped out with Scott Foley. Kelsey Grammar was also still with his wife and future "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star, Camille Grammar, and they more than packed on the PDA on the carpet. It was surely a different time.
