EXCLUSIVE: Ariel Winter on getting ready for college and voting in her first election: 'I wish we had better candidates'
Ariel Winter is ready for a new chapter in her life.
The 18-year-old Modern Family star, who is attending UCLA in the fall, is definitely looking forward to getting the college experience. Winter dished about her exciting future when ET caught up with her on Tuesday at Variety's Power Of Young Hollywood Issue Celebration, presented by the app Pixhug with Vince Camuto, in Los Angeles.
"Having that experience, I think, is something that really just enriches your life and it's going to be amazing for me to go to college with other undergraduate students," Winter tells ET's Katie Krause. "Find people who are studying the same thing as me. People that aren't. Just meet a more diverse group of people. That's what I'm most excited for. I'm also just excited to be a college student."

Winter reveals she wants to major in political science, and has a backup plan for the future in case a career in acting doesn't pan out.

"Well, I've been acting my whole life, so I feel, for me ... I feel like I should have knowledge in another subject, because the industry is so... you can't predict what's going to happen," she admits. "I could be working now and then not work the next 10 years. So, I thought it's important to have knowledge in another subject that you like, that you can have as a plan in the future."
Given her interest in politics, the actress also gets pretty candid on her thoughts about November's presidential election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
"I absolutely hate Donald Trump. Just, to be honest," she says bluntly. "I wish we had better candidates. I really do."
"I'm pretty disappointed that these are the candidates now," she continues. "Like, we've come so far, yet the candidates don't really reflect the amazing strides we've made."

Winter also talked to ET on Tuesday about her risque Instagram posts and promoting a positive body image.
"Everybody is so hyped up on the fact that I post photos where my butt's out. It's a butt. Everyone has a butt," she noted. "I don't think it's crazy."
"It's like, 'Let me live! I'm enjoying my life, you're enjoying your life, you should be posting your butt if you like it, too!'" she added.
