'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul' adds Alicia Silverstone (Exclusive)

The next installment in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise has rounded out its cast with Alicia Silverstone, Tom Everett Scott and Charlie Wright.

Fox 2000 and Color Force are relaunching the film series with Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, which will feature new leads Jason Ian Drucker and Owen Asztalos. Based on the book series by Jeff Kinney, The Long Haul follows Greg Heffley (Drucker) as he convinces his family to go on a summer road trip to attend Meemaw's 90th birthday — although really he hopes to secretly attend what he thinks is a nearby gamer convention.

Silverstone will play Susan, matriarch of the Heffley family, while Scott will play Frank, the Heffley kids' dad. Wright is playing Rodrick, Greg's brother.

David Bowers, who helmed 2011's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules and 2012's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, is returning to direct the new film based on the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.

Color Force's Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are producing the film, which is slated to go into production in mid-September.

Silverstone recently signed on to the TV Land comedy pilot American Woman, and will be seen in the feature film King Cobra opposite James Franco. She is repped by UTA, Untitled and Gang Tyre.

Scott's credits include 2012's Parental Guidance and 2011's Mars Needs Moms. He is repped by Gersh and John Carrabino Management.

Wright made his acting debut on CBS' The Millers and starred alongside actors Will Arnett and Bea Bridges. He recently wrapped work on indie Ingrid Goes West starring opposite Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen and also is working on the upcoming FX series Better Things. He is repped by Innovative Artists, Management Production Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
