Pia Mia to be In Charge of Madonna's New Clothing Line

Back in April, Madonna made headlines with her Material Girl line. She decided to appoint the first ever fashion director of the label, unveiling Pia Mia as not only the newest director, but the campaign face of the collection. The 19-year-old pop sensation has since been hard at work helping design pieces in the collection that infuse her own personal style, including her signature fishnet tights, bandana, and even a custom grill.

And for fans of both Madonna and Pia we have good news for you: there will be plenty more surprises in store for the Material Girl collection!

We recently sat down with the petite fashionista to talk about what influences her fashion choices, what her first reaction was to finding out she would be the new face of Material Girl, and what she's hoping to bring to the latest designs.

Who or what influences your fashion?
I think my fashion really inspires my music and my music really inspires my fashion. And I just use my life to inspire both. I just do whatever makes me feel good.

What was your first reaction to finding out you were the first-ever fashion director of "Material Girl?"
Well being able to fashion direct something was on my bucket list. I've always been so interested in fashion and it's such a big part of who I am. When I got the call that I was going to be the first ever fashion director for Material Girl I was really excited. And Madonna is also a musical and fashion icon whom I look up to. It will be cool to have so much influence over a brand and really be able to just put my personality into literally every aspect of it.

What are you hoping to bring to the Material Girl line?
I love Material Girl; I've been wearing it since I was 16. I have a lot of ideas with fashion, I'm always thinking about the newest trends. So I really want to create some new staple pieces for Material Girl. We have active wear, everyday clothes, shoes, so there's every aspect of fashion. I want to create stand-out, trademark pieces.

What has been the hardest aspect of fashion directing so far?
There is a lot to learn. I've never done fashion directing before and there's so many steps you go through when designing, like shooting the campaigns and choosing photographers. So it's just been a lot of me trying to figure things out as they come along.

You're also very prominent on social media. How has social media impacted your career?
I feel like social media has had a large impact on me as a musician just because coming from Guam, when I was uploading my covers on YouTube and would watch the reactions I was getting it pushed me to move to LA. So I think it's a really good platform for people to get their talents out there. It's cool being able to share your art and who you are as a person with your fans.
