Jean-Claude Van Damme To Reprise Role In 'Kickboxer: Retaliation'

Jean-Claude Van Damme is joining the cast of Kickboxer: Retaliation, a sequel to the new Kickboxer: Vengeance, and the second film in a proposed Kickboxer trilogy designed to reboot the original Kickboxer, in which Van Damme starred in 1989.

The original Kickboxer — the martial arts film in which Van Damme played Kurt Sloane, a kickboxer out to avenge the death of his brother — spawned four sequels in the '90s. In the upcoming reboot, Kickboxer: Vengeance, directed by John Stockwell and scheduled for release in September, Alain Moussi takes over the role of Kurt Sloane and Van Damme appears as Master Durand.

Van Damme will reprise that role in Kickboxer: Retaliation for writer/director Dimitri Logothetis. The actor signed his contract live on his official Facebook page on July 4. The film, aiming for a 2017 release, is being produced by Our House Films, whose Steven Swadling is producing with the company's Rob Hickman, Jay Strommen and Larry Nealy serving as exec producers.
