Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter Secrets Revealed

Warning: Contains spoilers for the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale.

LONDON — Back in Season 1 of Game of Thrones, you probably never thought you'd be crying over the death of a Lannister — but here we are.

Take a bow, Tommen Baratheon. You were too damn good for the world of Westeros.

SEE ALSO: Well, Cersei certainly shut it down in the 'Game of Thrones' finale

Although a lot of us predicted that Tommen would be killed during the Season 6 finale — some thought he'd be killed by the Mountain, while others thought he'd burn in the fire at the Great Sept — his actual death was much more poignant than that.

Tommen's face when he sees the Great Sept burning says it all.

In that moment, Tommen knows that Margaery — who, it turns out, he really did love a hell of a lot — has likely died. He also knows, at least on some level, that his mother is the one responsible.

The fact that he takes his crown off before jumping is significant.

This could obviously mean a few things, but to us it seems to signify that Tommen doesn't want any part of the game — or any part of the brutal world of Westeros — any more. Essentially, it's his suicide note.

The way the whole scene is done — the lingering shot of the open window and the complete lack of music — makes the whole thing even more upsetting.

At the end of the day, Tommen was the antithesis of Joffrey and Cersei — he was just too nice for the backstabbing harshness of the Game of Thrones world.

RIP, Tommen.
