Trump supporters show their spirit during Inauguration Day celebrations

As Donald Trump prepared to take his oath of office Friday, hundreds of thousands of supporters poured in from around the nation to join him in Washington D.C. on Inauguration Day.

City officials anticipated an estimated 700,000 to 900,000 people to take part in the historic event, and the 45th president's backers expressed their enthusiasm and hopeful expectations. In addition to flags and other patriotic gear, many Trump supporters sported his trademark 'Make America Great Again' red hat.

"I've never been so pumped in my whole life," said Catherine, a 25-year-old Trump supporter from Atlanta told AOL News. "It's amazing how much he can accomplish with just his words."

One group of young men told AOL News they drove down from Detroit to the nation's capital to see the man they voted for get sworn in.

"It was awesome," one of the young men said. "It's a once in a lifetime thing."
