Report: Trump wanted a parade with tanks and missile launchers

Donald Trump is said to have wanted heavy military equipment to be part of his inaugural celebrations but was denied.

Citing an inside source, a Huffington Post report states, "a member of Trump's transition team floated the idea of including tanks and missile launchers in the inaugural parade."

The person is also quoted as saying, "They were legit thinking Red Square/North Korea-style parade."

However, officials reportedly turned down the suggestion due to the regime-like appearance as well as likely damage to local roads.

Instead, Trump's inauguration is set to feature an air demonstration consisting of five flyovers—one for each branch of the military—at his request.

Such flyovers are relatively rare for presidential inaugurations, with the last two deployments happening during the events for George W. Bush in 2001 and Harry Truman in 1949.

However, Trump has expressed his intent to show off the strength of U.S. forces, telling the Washington Post, "...we're going to display our military. That military may come marching down Pennsylvania Avenue. That military may be flying over New York City and Washington, D.C., for parades. I mean, we're going to be showing our military."
