Joel McHale opens 2017 People's Choice Awards with talked about Brangelina divorce joke

When Joel McHale stepped out onto the 2017 People's Choice Awards red carpet on Wednesday night pushing a double stroller with eight babies sitting in it, we weren't really sure what was happening. And then he made a Brangelina joke.

"I actually got these as part of the Brad and Angelina divorce settlement," he quipped. "If you don't win an award [tonight], you will be given one of these adorable babies."

McHale also alluded to the results of the 2016 election, though he never named Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton by name. During a pre-taped bit with his "The Great Indoors" castmates, the former host of "The Soup" asked a rhetorical question when explaining that fans vote for the winners of every award at the People's Choice Awards.

"When have the people ever been wrong?" he posed.

Later on in his monologue, he made another subtle nod to the ill-received results of the election. The People's Choice Awards are "the one night a year where Hollywood reacts positively to what the middle of the country thinks." Of course, McHale was alluding to the fact that much of Hollywood reacted very negatively to Trump's victory in the presidential election.

During his opening statements, the comedian also revealed that the show received over 265 million votes from the public to determine the night's winners.
