Golden Globes 2017: Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell present Best Animated Feature with sad childhood anecdotes
Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell's brought their deadpan humor with them to the stage while presenting best animated feature.
"Do you remember the first time you saw an animated movie?" Wiig asked Carell. "Dad took me to see Fantasia," he replied. He then talked about how when he left the movie, his mother was standing in the theater lobby. "That was the moment she told my dad that she wanted a divorce," Carell said, never cracking a smile. He somberly joked he never saw his father again.
As the camera cut to audience members laughing at the bit, it was Wiig's turn to share her animated feature tragic memories. For Wiig, it was all about her grandfather taking her to see Bambi after her three dogs died — pets named Jack, Janet and Chrissy as a nod to Three's Company.
She spoke about her sadness at the loss of Bambi's mom, and said that, like Carell, it was the last day she ever saw her grandfather. He disappeared and she didn't talk to him for two years, she said, adding long pauses alongside Carell and drawing large laughs.
The pair then went on to announce Zootopia as the winner.
